In the business world Blogger has unnecessarily gotten a bit of a bad reputation. Recently I was told that Blogger would delete a business blog because the content is not self hosted. I researched this claim and nowhere does it say that Blogger doesn't allow blogs for business purposes. It does however warn against spam. You can read about Blogger's content guidelines here.
Setting up a business blog is important for many reasons. Two of the main ones is that it helps your niche know you and google likes blogs.
Blogs Brand YOU. On a blog you get to talk about why you are in business for yourself, what your products or services are all about, who you are and what others say about you. People can get to know you and the more they know you, the more comfortable they will be with the idea of working with you.
Blogs Rank On Google: Google has been doing some new things and one of those new things is that when people search for information google responds by ranking social media. Blogs qualify as social media. If you are putting good, keyword rich, content on your blog google is going to rank you high when people search for your service.
I did not write this post to say that every one should go right now and use Blogger. However I think all to often blogger doesn't get enough credit. If you want to read more in depth on the differences between Blogger and WordPress you can read an article by Small Biz Survival. They do a nice job outlining the pluses and minuses of both.
If you are working form home as a business owner and your not blogging, I highly recommend changing that. It doesn't matter if you choose WordPress or Blogger- just get to it and see your business head to the next level!
